Frequently Asked Questions

  • Executive function is the set of mental skills that include planning, working memory and self-control. Individuals who struggle with executive functioning may have difficulties with organization, focus, managing time, meeting assignment deadlines, remembering things, and completing multi-step tasks among other things.

  • Executive functioning skills can be taught and can be improved. Many people naturally pick up on strategies to manage executive functioning, however others need to be explicitly taught these skills in order to manage their daily school life. I will teach skills and strategies in the specific areas of need and help them develop tools to support their school functioning. With instruction, practice and tapering support, students will experience improvement in these areas.

  • During the consultation, I will gather background information about your child and their needs. Based on the information you provide, I will be able to let you know what type of services/interventions I would recommend. I will provide you with information about my rates and discuss suitable times for sessions.

  • This will depend on the specific needs of each student. For example, students needing organization support may benefit from two, 25 minute sessions each week. Typically, reading and writing interventions require at least one, 55 minute session per week. This will depend on each individual student.

  • The sessions will either be 55 minutes or 25 minutes depending on the needs and services of your child. Five minutes after each session will be designated to my communication with the parent(s) via email to summarize the session and address any individual needs.

  • We can discuss this at your free virtual consultation.

“Our daughter has struggled with reading since first grade. When she started 3rd grade, we decided to hire Ms. Haagensen for private reading intervention to help accelerate her progress. She grew leaps and bounds! Her confidence grew and she became more motivated to read and improve. Ms. Haagensen is a friendly teacher and was able to build a strong, positive relationship with our daughter. I highly recommend her services.”
